How was your housing?
Housing was amazing. It was super central and it was close to the other students and really easy to get everywhere in the city. It was so easy to get around and to walk to everything that Edinburgh had to offer. Everyone was so helpful, it’s was a key part of what made it such a great experience.
How was your supervisor?
My supervisor was amazing. She was great. She gave me a lot of freedom in the research to focus on my interest areas and aligning those with the overall project goals. In addition to that, she was another great resource on places to see in the city and the area. She was just fantastic.
Would you recommend the program?
I would 100% recommend the program, I wouldn’t have been able to get the experience on my own, it made it so much easier and it was such a smooth process.
Each internship or research group is unique in its work and what the day to day is like. However, there are many similarities as well.
Typically, the day will start around 9 a.m. and ends at around 3:30 or 4:00. Once onsite, your first day starts with a meeting with your program leader. During this meeting, they will provide the detailed goals for your time with the program, many of these points will have also been covered during your video interview with them prior to acceptance. They will also go over any health and safety training that may be necessary.
For the next 8-10 weeks, you will be working within the program towards those goals. You will often work with both the lead professionals, professors, Post-doc students, PhD students and others. Their goal is to make sure that your time is spent learning and working towards the project goals. And don't forget, you will have a lot of fun as well!
In addition to the amazing time that you'll have living and experiencing the local city and country, you will get to experience working with a group of leading professionals in your field that are focused on finding solutions.
It's a completely different experience than simply studying abroad. Here you are learning about some of the most important challenges that we face, and working hands-on with leaders and teammates to help solve them.
It's an incredibly valuable learning experience, but it's also a fantastic way to build your network and resume, and even earn academic credit.
