“All the world’s a stage,” a famous Brit once wrote, and there is arguably no more prominent stage than the streets of London. Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, and 10 Downing Street are just the beginning; it’s time to explore!
Sophie attends Harvard University and researched with the Biomedical and Health Sciences group at the University of Roehampton in London, England.
What type of program did you experience?
At the beginning of my placement, I was taught how to use the resources to create chemical compounds on the computer. After I was well versed in these resources, I began to make several different compounds in silico. We then took those compounds and saw how they reacted when placed in the environment of a Dopamine, Seratonin, or Norepinephrine transporter.
How was Geoff, your onsite coordinator?
Geoff was the best. He kept us updated on all of the different events going on in London (which are a lot in the summer!). He was always there for us, and was such a great resource. He was also a lot of fun on the excursions. He really made the experience better than I could have imagined.
Would you recommend the program?
I would recommend this program to another student because the quality of the research is unparalleled. It is very hard to find science based research programs and it was best. They help you feel truly at home in the city.

Housing is one of the most important aspects of an overseas experience. Our focus is on location and comfort. In London, all of our apartments are located in either Zone 1 or 2 in central London. This provides fantastic access to all that London has to offer!
Additionally, all housing is fully furnished, with wifi and all other utilities included. There are typically 2-4 students per apartment, which offers a great opportunity to connect with your fellow students.
